CARING FOR YOUR FEAST - You’ve ordered your food, it’s arrived safe and sound, but how do you keep it at its best?

Meat –
Larger pieces of meat, a Rib of Beef or whole bird for example, keep best unwrapped in your fridge. If they’re wrapped up for too long, especially in plastic, they can begin to sweat. So, if you’ve treated yourself to a big hunk of something delicious, it’ll be grand out of its bag for a couple of days before you cook it.
The golden rule is to bring your meat up to room temperature before you begin to cook. It gives for much juicier meat – even 20 minutes out of the fridge will make a difference.
Almost all meat benefits from a rest after cooking too. Sausages not so much, but for a perfectly succulent steak, chop or joint, give it a few minutes before you dig in so all those juices have a chance to soak back into the meat.
All our meat is fresh and prepared to order, so it’s perfectly fine to freeze at home – though we’d recommend it’s eaten within 6 months to ensure its still at its best when you dig in!

Cheese –
In general, the larger the piece of cheese, the better it will keep (though of course, the texture and structure of a cheese may affect this). All our cheese is cut to order, so it should last at least 5 days.
Most of us keep cheese in the fridge, though a cool cellar works perfectly well if you’re lucky enough to have one. The best spot in the fridge is a salad drawer – it’s not as cold and a little more humid.
Cheese doesn’t do well when it’s tightly wrapped in plastic, so try to keep it in waxed paper or loosely wrapped in foil – it’ll allow your cheese to breathe. If your cheese has been in the fridge for a while, you might see a touch of mould on the surface. Don’t panic – just trim a thin layer off and the cheese underneath will be fresh as a daisy.
If you can, make sure you bring your cheese and charcuterie up to room temperature before serving. It’ll allow the full flavours and aromas to come through and give a completely different texture.

IS YOUR PACKAGING RECYCLABLE?

It certainly is!
Our cardboard boxes are 100% roadside recyclable, as are the bags and paper we use to wrap our produce. We use Wool Cool to ensure your products are properly insulated and arrive perfectly chilled. The wool insulation is totally compostable, biodegradable and reusable (we use it to insulate our potted plants in the winter, for felting projects and to give the chickens at home an extra cosy coop). We’re also in the process of moving to recyclable vac-bags – keep an eye out for their stickers!

CAN I REQUEST A DIFFERENT WEIGHT OR SIZE OF PRODUCT?

Absolutely – everything we sell is prepared and cut to order.

HOW DO I REQUEST A BESPOKE HAMPER?

We love foodie gifts and if our hamper range isn’t tickling your fancy, we’ll curate a unique box of goodies just for you. Get in touch to talk through your budget, ideas and presentation and we’ll do the rest!

WHERE DOES YOUR MEAT COME FROM?

We work with several suppliers to bring you the very best produce.
Whether it’s Herb Fed Poultry’s award-winning chicken, reared in Yorkshire, local Lakeland Herdwick from Southern Cumbria or beautifully marbled Aberdeen Angus from our co-op of farmers just across the Scottish Border, we know exactly where the meat in our counter has come from and how it’s been raised. CAN I BOOK A TABLE?

We’re quite a small place, so sometimes don’t have room for walk-ins. If you know what time you’ll be passing by and would like to book a table, please get in touch here and we’ll make sure there’s one waiting for you!

WILL MY ORDER BE GIFT WRAPPED?

The goodies in each of our hampers and giftsets are nestled in a bed of shredded paper and come with a free handwritten gift card – just remember to include a note at the checkout so your lucky recipient knows who their gift is from!

If you want something extra special, you can choose from our Cumbrian Gift Cards, beautifully illustrated by Becca Hall. Let us know what you’d like written inside and we promise we’ll use our best handwriting to pen your words.

If you’re opting for Click & Collect, you can choose our modern Tote Bag, traditional Jute Bag or chic Wooden Crate to present your treats in. Or if you have something else in mind, get in touch to chat through your thoughts.

CAN I USE MY GIFT VOUCHER ONLINE AND IN STORE?

At the moment our Gift Vouchers can be used in store only, but we’re hoping to have our online vouchers up and running soon.

HOW LONG WILL MY DELIVERY TAKE?

All our produce is prepared to order, so we’re unable to offer next day delivery (it gives us time to prepare, cut and wrap your goodies).

If you need something today, just give us a call and we’ll try to prepare your order for collection asap.

You’ll be able to select your preferred delivery/collection date at the checkout.

Although almost all of our deliveries arrive on the day you’ve specified, from time-to-time delivery may take a little longer. If you’re ordering a gift or for a special occasion, we recommend you allow for an extra 24 hours just in case.

You don’t need to be at home when we deliver. Just make sure you let us know where your parcel can be safely left, in case you are out and about.

ARE YOUR DELIVERIES CARBON NEUTRAL?

As part of our sustainability commitment, we choose to work with DPD. Not only do they offer an incredibly efficient service, but are leading the way by ensuring every single parcel they deliver is carbon neutral. DO YOU OFFER CORPORATE HAMPERS?

We do! Whether it’s a one off extravaganza for an extra special client, or a treat for your entire team, we’ll curate the perfect hamper for you. Take a look here for more details and get in touch to talk through your requirements.

IS THERE PARKING NEARBY?

Yes – we’re right in the middle of Penrith so there’s plenty of parking available.
The closest free car park is the large Sainsburys – you’ll have 3 hours so there’s plenty of time for a mooch of our shelves and a bite to eat. You’ll find more info here.

HOW DOES CLICK & COLLECT WORK?

If you’re just passing through or don’t have the time to peruse our shelves, you can always opt for our Click & Collect service. Just choose this option and the date you’d like to collect at the checkout. Please bring your order confirmation with you as proof of purchase – you can just show us the email on your phone.

Our produce is prepared to order, so if you can’t make your collection day please let us know. We may be able to hold your order for a short period of time, depending on what items you have chosen. You will not be entitled to a refund if you fail to collect your order.

COVID-19 UPDATE

What a strange time we find ourselves in…

We continue to monitor all government, local authority and industry guidelines to help ensure the safety and wellbeing of our team and customers. We hold the ‘We’re Good to Go’ standard, which recognises our Covid-19 processes, but what else can you expect when you pop by?

Face Coverings – although we aren’t required to wear a face covering, our team will continue to do so (as many of us are not yet fully vaccinated). We’d love if you could pop one on whilst you’re with us too – it’ll help protect our team and keep our doors open.

If you forget yours please don’t worry, we have plenty of spares – just ask a member of our team.

Hand Washing – whether you’re swinging by for a bite to eat or collecting sausages from the Butcher’s Counter, we encourage everyone to sanitise their hands before they come in. It helps keep surfaces clean and our team safe. You’ll find hand washing stations at our door and throughout the shop/café.

More Space – to give us all a bit more space, we’ve reduced the number of tables inside, as well as adding outside seating (Cumbrian weather permitting). We ask that you respect distancing guidance whilst visiting us and, if things are getting a little busy, you may be asked to briefly wait outside until we have a bit more room for you.

Table Service – you’ll be asked to wait to be shown to a seat. Even if you can see an empty table, it doesn’t mean we’ve had the chance to thoroughly clean it yet, so please wait to be seated.

We’ll come to you! Once you’re seated, we ask that you remain at your table, unless you are going to the bathroom or you are paying for your meal. If you need anything, just ask a member of our team as they go past.

Your Details – whether you use the NHS App or our slightly more old-fashioned pen & paper system, we encourage everyone to check into the building. If you give us your details, they’ll be safely stored for 21 days then destroyed.

Cleaning – as a food business we’ve always held ourselves to very high Food Hygiene and Health & Safety standards. But the world has changed, so we’ve introduced a much stricter cleaning regime and very strict personal hygiene procedures. This means that service may take a little longer, but it’s a price we believe is worth paying to keep us all safe.
